History of Hair Loss

Since the beginning of recorded history, men and women have been searching for a cure to Male Pattern Baldness. Over the last 5,000 years, there have been numerous cosmetic treatments that give the illusion of more hair. There has been countless shampoos, oils, lotions, pills and nutritional supplements that have all been marketed sucessfully resulting in a billion dollar a year industry based mostly on hype. An estimated 6 in 10 men will suffer from Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) by the time they reach their 50's. So, what causes MPB? Genetics, hormones, stress, nutrition or a unique interplay of all of the above? Unfortunately, there has only been clues and theories as to what might be the culprit. Both FDA approved products for treatment of MPB were stumbled upon by accident, which should serve as an indication to the complexity of the MPB process. To be continued...
